College Report 2023-24
Sri Guru Angad Dev College of Education, Khadur Sahib was established in year 2005 in commemoration of 500 Prakash Utsav Celebration of Second Sikh Guru; Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji. The institution has successfully been running Bachelor in Education i.e. B.Ed. Course (Two years) recognized by National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), approved by Punjab Government and affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar since 2005. Progressing towards the new horizon, the TEI secured recognition from the Regional Director of Northern Regional Committee (NRC) of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to run Elementary Teacher Education Programme i.e. D.El.Ed.(ETT) Course in addition to B.Ed. Course w.e.f. year 2015. The institution is a Co-educational institution. This Teacher Education Courses are meant to bring great advantage to rural students for better placement opportunities within and outside the country.
By conforming to its mission and vision, the institution has been persistently developing and has practized innovative institutional practices during sessions 2023-24 influenced by the guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC), NEP 2020, NTCE and affiliating bodies to enhance the Quality Teacher Education in harmony with national development vision. The institution got the opportunity to be evaluated and appraised by the affiliation bodies through periodical inspections by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on 20-04-2023 and State Council of Education Research and Training, Mohail on 23-10-2024, wherein the institution acclaimed commendable remarks from the inspection panel for maintaining quality and standards in the institutional practices.
In context to the academic achievement in session 2023-24, the students of the institution grabbed top most positions at the district level. During University Final Examination for B.Ed. Final semester, Sonia Arora not only grabbed top position at District level by scoring 82% marks, but also secured 28th rank in the university merit list. Moreover 13 students of the B.Ed. class got distinction marks. During D.El.Ed. course Final year Examination conducted by State Council of Education Research and Training, six students grabbed top six positions at the district level by securing 82.31% marks. Moreover 12 students of the D.El.Ed. class got distinction marks.
The institution organized and participated in a number of activities and events to achieve the aims of skill Development training, Personality Development, Professional Development in collaboration with Government organizations, NGO, sister institutions, alumni members, Community sector and even in collaboration with the practizing schools wherein the prospective teachers of the institute completed their internship program. The prominent events being held during session 2023 – 2024 are as follow:
- A research based workshop on the theme “Status of Education in difficult areas (borders, kandi and Educationally backward blocks) of Punjab” on august 12, 2023; being sponsored by the institute for Development and Communication, Chandigarh (IDC, Chd.); a premier autonomous research, training and evaluation organization of North West of India.
- A calligraphy workshop to enchance the Writing skills of the prospective teachers in collaboration with the alumnus S.Harwinder Singh; an innovative teacher in Govt. sector.
- To enhance the collaboration with the Alumni of the institution; A grand alumni meet – 2023, involving the enthusiastic participation of majority of the Alumni members (even from Abroad via online platform) was organized on May 13, 2023. The alumni members were honored with the Eco-friendly bags and certificates for their significant contribution to the National Development.
- To recognize the achievements of the students of previous completed five sessions at the institution, a mega event; The convocation – 2023 cum Prize distribution program was organized on November 10, 2023. During this event, Prof. (Dr.) Arvind, Hon’ble Vice chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala conferred the degrees to the students and also presented honours to the alumni members serving at distinguished positions.
- An Educational workshop on the theme, “How to revive the Ancient Educational System of Punjab” on March 18, 2024 in collaboration with Atam Pargas Organization (NGO), Ludhiana (Punjab).
- Organization of Aids Day Rally and Exhibition on Dec. 1, 2023 sponsored by Red Ribbon Club (RRC); District Tarn Taran (Pb.) an endeavor under Govt. of India.
- Majority of the faculty members participated in “NEP-2020 Orientation & sensitization program” organized by MMTTC, Guru Nanak Dev University (Sponsored by University Grants Commission) to achieve the aim of Professional Development.
The institutional administration made sincere efforts to provide financial assistance to needy and meritorious students by making provision of various scholarship schemes (By Govt./ NGOs/ philanthropists/ Colleges Welfare Fund). As a result, the students of the institution availed the scholarship amount of total 5,61,220/- under Dr. Ambedkar scheme post matric scholarship; the scholarship amount of 4,28,000/- under Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council and Sikh Human Development Council (USA based NGO) the scholarship amount of 1,15,000 under S.O.S. trust (an NGO); the scholarship amount of 35,000/- under Nishan-E-Sikhi Charitable Trust Scholarship scheme and scholarship amount of 36,500/- under college Students Welfare Fund scheme. The institution earned remarkable achievements at State level and National level due to its significant contribution in various environment conservation projects. The institution earned appreciation certificates for green initiatives by Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs (Government of India); Apna Punjab Foundation (Regd.) and Micro, small and medium Enterprizes (Govt. of India).
The institution has made significant efforts and contributions to Quality Teacher Education integrated with skill development and training, professional development, personality development, Environment conservation, Community welfare; thus nurtured prospective teachers decorated with values, ethics and skills. These endeavours resulted to successful employment of nine alumni members as teachers in Govt. sector; good placement avenues for majority of the students who completed the course in session 2023-24; remarkable achievement of 12 students who qualified State level and National level teacher eligibility tests i.e. PSTET and CTET.
